The future of manufacturing in the 4.0 era

Here the presentation that I held at SMAU Bologna “Research to Business” fair on 9th June, as scientific curator of the Fab2B event organized by ASTER and Rete Mak-ER, in partnership with Slow/d and Regione Emilia-Romagna.

My thesis (a paper is under development), is that we’ll have a multi-level ecosystem in the manufacturing industry where the so-called “Industry 4.0” smart factories won’t be a winner-take-all model, but where there will be room for small specialized manufacturers and peer-production communities locally supported by fablabs.
